2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Feedback

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure informed employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a more defined game identity.

Ismailer noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news follows a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the complete message from Ismailer's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a clearer vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to consideration and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its promise to our players.

The belief in this project grows every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, he starts with us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and experience in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in welcoming him soon. We are all looking forward to persist observing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.

Experience of the New Leader

The appointee currently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously worked at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Concept

Project Ethos was revealed in last year alongside a early access event. At the time, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that change every session. Will you leave securely with your collected items? Or aim high, put it on the line, and trust your squad can earn top ranking? The choice is yours."

The game does not have an announced launch window or platforms, but fans can anticipate further news as production progresses.
